Excellent condition!
This is the third volume of a four-volume work on Slovak folk songs published in the 1950s. This massive 700-page volume features 938 songs from Tura Luka (old Nitra county), Liptovske Sliace (Liptov), Podkonice (Zvolen), Bajerov (Saris), Velke Zaluzice (Ung), and Rejdova (Gemer). Full lyrics and musical notation are given for all songs.
The preface and illustration captions are in Slovak, Russian, German, and English, while songs and the introductory text for each village are in Slovak only. The type or purpose of each song is indicated:   for a certain dance, for various parts of the traditional wedding, sung during chores (field work, pasturing, spinning bees), lullabies, evening songs, general purpose, etc. Includes a glossary of dialect words and an alphabetical index of songs in the back.
Many black-and-white plates are interspersed throughout, showing villagers in traditional dress, houses, customs, village scenes, and the like. The plates are unnumbered, but a quick count gave me about 126 in all.
A rare book documenting folk songs from these villages!
