    Description

    This is a women's ethnic costume from the beginning of the XX century from the region near the city of Skopje, known as Skopska Blatija in the central part of Macedonia. The costume is kept in a very good condition, without damages of any kind. The costume contains long shirt (dress), vest, apron, belt, headscarf. The shirt in this costume is unique and rare because of its material, it was made of hemp, hand woven on a horizontal loom and after hand embroidered, decorated. Most of the shirts were made of cotton and woven on a loom, but this one was made of hemp. It is also known as 'konopka' from the word 'konop' which is a translation in Macedonian for hemp.
